Celebrating Outstanding LAMDA Results at Beau Soleil
Our students have plenty to celebrate following another fantastic set of LAMDA exam results, with students across Grades 8, 9 and 10 demonstrating creativity, courage and strong communication skills in their performances.
This year, 78 Beau Soleil students took a LAMDA examination, with some exceptional results. 51 students achieved a Distinction, scoring 80 marks or above, while an impressive 29 students scored over 90 marks. At the very top end, four students achieved an outstanding 98 marks out of 100.
While the results are certainly worth celebrating, LAMDA at Beau Soleil is about much more than the final mark. LAMDA examinations, offered by the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art, are performance-based assessments designed to develop communication, expression and stage presence.
At Beau Soleil, what makes the programme particularly valuable is that these opportunities are not reserved for a small group of aspiring performers. All Grade 8, 9 and 10 Drama students participate in the LAMDA programme as part of their Drama lessons.
At an age when students can become increasingly conscious of speaking and performing in front of others, LAMDA challenges them to step beyond their comfort zones. Through their preparation, students develop their physicality, voice, characterisation and understanding of performance, while learning how to express ideas clearly and with purpose.
The examination itself provides a challenge quite unlike many of the assessments students encounter in the classroom. Students perform their chosen monologues individually for a professional examiner before answering questions about their pieces and the creative decisions they have made.
Standing alone and performing requires courage, preparation and self-belief. Students must take ownership of their performance and trust in the work they have put in. These are skills that extend far beyond the Drama classroom.
Our team of trained LAMDA coaches supports students throughout the process and even includes a former theatre and television casting director, bringing valuable professional experience to their preparation.
Following their examination, students receive a certificate and detailed feedback from professional LAMDA examiners. At the higher levels, LAMDA qualifications can also carry UCAS points for students applying to universities in the UK.
Not every student who completes a LAMDA examination will go on to study Drama, and that is precisely part of its value.
Learning to stand in front of an audience, articulate an idea, respond to questions and present yourself with composure are skills students will use throughout their lives. From classroom presentations and university interviews to future careers, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively matters.
As one student reflected:
“Although I chose to continue studying History and the Sciences, I still found LAMDA to be a very helpful experience. It helped me speak more confidently on stage and understand how to clearly express an idea.”
These latest results are a wonderful reflection of the effort our students have put into the programme. Perhaps the greatest achievement, however, is seeing them become more assured performers, stronger communicators and more willing to take creative risks.
Congratulations to all of our LAMDA students on their fantastic achievements.
