Beau Soleil Visual Arts Exhibition: Celebrating Young Artists and Creative Excellence

Written by: Carla Meisel, Faculty Leader Creative and Performing Arts

For over a decade, the annual Visual Arts Exhibition at Beau Soleil has stood as a proud tradition and a key highlight of the academic calendar. This much-anticipated student art showcase opens the school’s doors to the public, offering a unique opportunity to experience the creativity, commitment, and vision of our young artists. Each piece on display reflects two years of sustained effort, personal exploration, and artistic growth.

A Transformative Experience Through IB and HSD Visual Arts

Students enrolled in the IB Visual Arts course or the HSD Visual Arts programme embark on a transformative creative journey. With a curriculum tailored to individual exploration, they develop a personal artistic voice while engaging with a wide range of techniques and media.

Through studies of historical and contemporary artists, along with constant experimentation, students learn to express complex ideas both visually and conceptually. Their learning process is rigorously documented — highlighting not only achievements but also setbacks and reflections — demonstrating their resilience, creativity, and risk-taking.

“Looking back at my exhibition, I realised how much each piece brought back parts of me I thought I'd lost. Seeing my family so happy — who came to Beau Soleil just to see the Vernissage — smiling in a way I hadn't seen in a long time, made me realise how much it meant to all of us.” Klaara P.

A Curated Showcase of Student Art

The Visual Arts exhibition is far more than a student display. It is a curated and deeply personal showcase of each student’s strongest work, offering insight into their thought process, technical growth, and artistic ambition. Year after year, the exhibition impresses families, staff, and visitors with its diversity, quality, and emotional impact.

“Sharing my work at the exhibition was such a great experience. It felt amazing to see people notice the time and effort I put in. Talking about my pieces helped me connect with them more, and I felt really proud and happy. My family felt very emotional and proud.” Ronise W.

The event has grown steadily in scale and reputation over the years. Originally held in a small studio space, the exhibition now transforms the school into a gallery filled with original perspectives and creative energy.

A Global Celebration of Creativity

This year’s Visual Arts Exhibition featured over 100 original artworks, including sculptures, assemblages, paintings, drawings, photographs, and digital art projections. It set a new benchmark for creativity and ambition. Families from around the world gathered in Villars to celebrate their children's accomplishments, a moving moment for the artists and the entire Beau Soleil community.

“During my art exhibition I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness as I was unsure how people would react to such personal and vulnerable pieces. I was deeply moved when a lady came up to me telling me my work had touched her so profoundly she shed tears.” Fernanda

Experience Creativity in Action

At Beau Soleil, the arts are not an extracurricular activity; they are a core part of how students learn, express themselves, and explore the world around them. The Visual Arts Exhibition reflects the school’s commitment to nurturing imagination, confidence, and critical thinking across all academic pathways.

We invite you to learn more about our IB and HSD programmes here and discover how we support young people in developing their creative voices. Whether you're an aspiring artist, designer, or simply someone who values creative thinking, there's a place for you in our vibrant artistic community.

From 17g to Industry Leader: What We Learned About Coffee Trading at Walter Matter

Ami and William, Heads of Development and Social Media at 17g, reflect on their internship at Walter Matter, a coffee and cacao trading company in Geneva. During their time, they gained insight into various departments such as sustainability, where they learned about geolocating farms to comply with EU environmental regulations, and trading, where they observed how global conflicts impact coffee prices. A highlight of their experience was participating in coffee cupping and roasting sessions, evaluating coffee quality for major clients. The internship broadened their understanding of the coffee industry and inspired them to apply similar practices at 17g.
