James Wood

Housemaster - Beau Soleil Boys

I joined Beau Soleil in 2019 and I have worked in boarding throughout my teaching career. I graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in Politics followed by a Masters in Economics at Oxford Brookes. I also spent time in Norway, studying at Oslo University. I have played rugby for many years and I have also been a ski instructor in the Alps.

I am a firm believer that sport teaches you so much about life, particularly how to work hard for yourself and the team. I grew up on the Isle of Man, sailing, biking and generally making the most of the beautiful natural environment. I later realised it also taught me the how a small and safe community can be a fantastic launch pad for young people to explore and learn about the world and themselves. There are many similarities to our mountain village here in Switzerland!

I am committed to providing a kind and relaxed, home-from-home environment in our house. I love meeting and getting to know all the boys and helping them see and realise their potential. One of the true joys of an international school is seeing young people from all over the world come together and find camaraderie under the roof of the boarding house - building friendships that can last a lifetime.

The opportunities available to students at Beau Soleil are like no other school in the world and it is a thrilling place to work and call home. I am joined by my wife, Lottie and daughters, Florence and Heidi, two girls who are very much part of the Beau Soleil Boys family.
